About Me
My name is Thomas McCarthy and I am completing my undergraduate studies in Agricultural Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University in University Park, PA, with an emphasis in Power and Machinery and a speciality in off-road equipment design for the agricultural and construction industries. My goal after college is to work in the equipment industry with a focus on designing and field testing machines for precision agriculture. The Agricultural Engineering program at Penn State is especially suited for my area of interest because it focuses on every part of the equipment business, from engines, transmissions, cabs, instrumentations, traction, and auxillery power as well as functional machine design to incorporate all areas of academics to design and build efficient and next-generation machines. I am currently a member of two professional societies: ASABE, which provides service and information for agricultural engineers as well as standards for designs, and ASHRAE, a professional society that is fundamental to the advancement of HVAC in both human occupied and animal/storage buildings, similar to what would be found on any farm today. Please read below for more information pertaining to both societies.
American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers

The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers is an educational and scientific organization dedicated to the advancement of engineering applicable to agricultural, food, and biological systems. Founded in 1907 and headquartered in St. Joseph, Michigan, ASABE comprises 9,000 members in more than 100 countries.
American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers

ASHRAE is an American professional society comprised of more than 51,000 members with a mission to advance the arts and sciences of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigerating to serve humanity and promote a sustainable world through research, standards writing, publishing and continuing education. The society incorporates the core values of Advancement, Leadership, Integrity, Service, and Excellence to provide information and service of the highest quality in all programs, publications, courses, and other activities.
