Web Conference 2005 Writing PHP for ITS/ASET Web services Saving Data on the Client

When writing Web applications, you may find it useful to store data on the client. This has many applications, such as:

• linking individual page requests together during log analysis to create a coherent history of a user's visit (or session)
• providing customized presentations, for example, switching into a debugging mode, changing language, setting richness of media to match bandwidth, etc.
• providing personalized presentations (e.g. Amazon's Gold Box)
• authentication, linking a username/password pair to state data
• demographical statisics
• pay-per-click advertising
• navigation

There are several ways to do it:

• Passing data through parameters

• Cookie Management

• Session Management
