Web Conference 2005 Writing PHP for ITS/ASET Web services What This Tutorial Covers

This session will cover an introductory lesson in writing a PHP script, including techniques such as:

• passing data over CGI parameters
• techniques for writing and debugging PHP programs
• advanced topics such as saving data in files
• authentication and information specific to Penn State servers

Requisites

• This tutorial is designed specifically for Web content editors (and laypeople) with:

  • Penn State Access Accounts
  • Penn State Access Account Storage Space (PASS)
  • and Penn State Personal Web space

• using:

  • Microsoft Windows XP
  • WordPad
  • and PASS Gateway.

• Those outside of this target may still learn something, especially if you are familiar with and/or have access to alternate tools or servers. Your mileage may vary.

• I will assume some basic knowledge in (or courage to learn) HTML and client/server Web concepts.

• Those who are familiar with programming and PHP may enrich their knowledge with this session. However, care has been taken to provide a brief introduction to those new to PHP and those new to programming.
