LEARNING SKILLS:
The Learning Skills Center will no longer be operating beginning Fall 2008. Please check the iStudy Modules for resources that can be used and incorporated in to classes. Thank you.

AN INVITATION TO FIRST-YEAR SEMINAR FACULTY:
The ULC offers in-class presentations to first-year seminar classes during the fall and spring semester. The presentation typically last about 25 minutes and familiarizes students with our services and website. If you are looking for a shorter introduction, we can schedule your group for a brief walk-through tour lasting approximately 10 minutes at any of our three locations.

TECHNOLOGY TUTORING FOR FACULTY:
Faculty members at University Park who would like one-on-one tutoring on teaching, learning, and class management tools can apply to have a technology-savvy student help them acquire computer skills on a range of topics. Through the Technology Learning Assistant (TLA) program, students tutor faculty in their offices on PowerPoint, Excel, file management, e-mail, Web page development, electronic gradebook software, and other applications and tools. TLAs can also demonstrate how to use Penn State services such as ANGEL 7.1, podcasting and iTunes U, Adobe Connect desktop videoconferencing, ITS Streaming Services, and the "Blogs at Penn State" pilot program. To learn more about the TLA program or to fill out the brief online application form, visit http://ets.tlt.psu.edu/tla/. The Technology Learning Assistant program is sponsored by the Schreyer Honors College, the College of Information Sciences and Technology, the Instructional Systems program of the College of Education, and Teaching and Learning with Technology, a unit of Information Technology Services.

PEER TUTORS:
The University Learning Centers (ULC) provide a trained staff of peer tutors, an encouraging learning environment and technology tools to enhance students' out-of-class learning.

  • Trained peer tutors use and promote collaborative learning. The staff of over one hundred tutors provides out-of-class assistance to students through the ULC's diverse services. Tutors also offer a limited number of in-class workshops.
  • Our multiple locations on campus provide quiet space for individual work and collaborative space for group work. Within this space, students have access to peer tutors, reserve course materials and a variety of technology.
  • The centers feature digital video-editing equipment, access to the Penn State backbone, video and audio tape players, and reserve course materials.
