In 1973, the Institute of State and Regional Affairs (ISRA) was established at Penn State Harrisburg. The Institute was created as a means of connecting Penn State Harrisburg with the state capital community. The primary role of ISRA is to further the University's public service and applied research mission by using Penn State's interdisciplinary resources and approaches in undertaking projects that serve the public interest.
ISRA falls under the jurisdiction of the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies. Seven centers comprise the ISRA, four of which are located pm campus. They include: The Pennsylvania State Data Center, Center for Geographic Information Services, Economic Development Research and Training Center and Center for Survey Research.
