Alpha Sigma Lambda

The Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honor Society is a unique organization dedicated to the recognition of the accomplishments of adult students. The Penn State Harrisburg Theta Iota Chapter was established in 1993. At Penn State Harrisburg, there are a number of activities and events run by the honor society. For more information regarding the Theta Iota Chapter at Penn State Harrisburg, contact Charlotte Spector, National Councilor for ASL.

Membership Requirements

The Chapter Councilor will notify eligible students of their selection. There is no application for membership.

Students may be selected for membership if they are age 24 or older, undergraduate degree candidates with at least 30 Penn State credits, and in the top 10% of that group, as long as the GPA is no lower then 3.2 (Note: The last few years, the GPA of the top 10% group has been no lower then 3.78).

Students who accept their invitation to membership will be officially inducted into the society at the annual induction ceremony, usually held in September. At present, there are no membership dues.

ASL Mentor Program

The ASL Mentor program matches new students with a current ASL member for the purpose of providing information and support during the transition to Penn State Harrisburg. If you would like to be matched to an experienced student who can help answer your questions, or just provide friendship and encouragement, please come to the Student Assistance Center, W-117 Olmsted, or call 948-6025 and ask for an ASL Mentor.

Career Forum

ASL has sponsored Career Forums, open to all students, in previous years during the spring semester. Past topics included "Starting Over or Just Getting Started" and "Dealing With Change in the Workplace."

Fundraiser

ASL is participating in Karn's Markets' Save and Share program. Karn's will return to us 1% of all purchases made. So, save your cash register receipts from Karn's and bring them into the Student Assistance Center. What could be easier?! For every $5000 worth of receipts, ASL will receive $50. Tell your family and friends. Everyone can help!

ASL Book Grant

Our chapter may award up to 2 $50 Bookstore grants anually, with the proceeds from our receipts rebate. Two grants were awarded for spring semester books and supplies at the PSH Bookstore. Eligibility is limited to adult students, but students do not have to be ASL members to apply. Applications will generally be available in the fall semester.
