Griot Outreach Group

Students in Town Square

Griot Outreach Group is a program that is dedicated to sharing African-American history through the oral tradition. Students of Penn State Harrisburg will research slave stories at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. and then present these stories at the local public schools. The presentation, in addition to story telling, will include singing and the use of traditional African instrumentation such as talking drums, beaded gorges, and thumb pianos.

The Griot Outreach Group provides an ideal forum for sharing African-American history and promotes appreciation of cultural differences through better understanding of one particular culture.
