Intramural Sports Registration

There are two options for signing up for intramural sports.  You can get a team together and sign up as a team or, if you do not have a team to play for, you can sign up as a free agent and you will be assigned to or drafted by a team.

Forming a Team
The easiest way to register is by forming a team of your own…..perhaps people on your dorm floor; classmates in your major; students in your apartment complex; etc.  To find out how many players you will need to form a team, browse through the sports rules.  You will need to gather the following information from each player:  First and last name; e-mail address; cell phone number; PSU ID number.  You will need to come up with a team name.  A word of caution – keep it simple and clean……rosters of teams with inappropriate team names will be sent back to the team captain for re-registration.

Registering a Team
Each sport has its own registration period.  The Sports Planner below shows the registration period for the current semester.  Registration information can also be found on the Penn State Harrisburg Intramural Sports Group Facebook page and on the IM bulletin board in the Capital Union Building

Registration Options
Team sport registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.  Because of limited playing fields and gymnasium space, only a certain amount of teams can be accommodated.  You may register online or by completing a paper registration form available at the Capital Union Building.  The key is to register early and completely.  Rosters containing incomplete or inaccurate information or have inappropriate team names will be sent back to the captain and must be re-submitted.

Mandatory Captain’s Meetings
Once you’ve registered a team, you or a teammate MUST attend the mandatory captain’s meeting for that sport.  Someone must be designated the team captain.  The date, time, and place of the captain’s meeting is listed on the Sports Planner below.  Even if you are an expert in the sports, you or a teammate must attend the captain’s meeting!  If there is no representation from your team at the captains meeting, your team will be DROPPED immediately from the league.  It’s mandatory, so make it there!  The captain’s meeting typically take an hour and covers the sports rules, eligibility requirements and other IM policies and procedures.

Team Sport Free Agents
Don’t have a team to play for?  No problem.  To register online as a free agent, put “Free Agent” in the captain’s name field of the registration form and then put your own information under “Player 1.”  You will be placed by the Intramural Coordinator on a team whose roster is thin.

Assumption of Risk Agreement
Penn State University does not provide insurance coverage for any injury or accident related to participation in intramural sports or activities or any “practice” or “free play.”  Each individual should provide his/her own coverage either through family policies or through the student insurance program.  Injuries sustained while participating in intramural sports will be attended to by the Intramural Assistant on duty as well as by Police Services.  All participants are required to complete a Penn State Intramural Sports Participation Agreement.  This is mandatory!  Every team player must print the Agreement and it must be complete and given to the team captain prior to the first scheduled game.  Team captains are responsible for submitting the completed Agreements to the IM Coordinator before the first scheduled game.  Players who have not submitted the Agreement will not be permitted to play.

Game Schedules and Game Night Procedures
Game schedules will be e-mailed to all team captains as soon as possible after the captain’s meeting.  Typically, it takes 2-3 days to get the schedule generated.  Team captains are responsible for making sure that all team members receive a copy of their team schedule.
When possible, players should arrive for games 10 minutes prior to start time to sign-in at the game site.  A PSU ID card is required for all participants.

Team Practices
The Intramural Sports Department does not coordinate or schedule practice times for teams.  Outdoor field space is available on a first-come, first-served basis.  Keys to lights for the fields must be obtained through the IM Sports Coordinator.
