Penn State Harrisburg Diversity Awards

Names of Awards

Purpose

The Penn State Harrisburg Diversity Awards are intended to recognize and reward employees who have demonstrated a commitment to celebrating diversity by initiating steps to create a welcoming climate and/or eliminate discrimination through encouragement or understanding between persons of different races, sexes, age groups, ethnicity, religious heritage, disability, or sexual orientation.

Eligibility

To be eligible for nomination, a prospective nominee must be a full-time or part-time employee with a minimum of three years continuous service.

Selection

The Diversity and Educational Equity Committee is responsible for administering these awards.  Committee members will evaluate the nominations through an open, competitive process.  Recommendations will be forwarded to the Chancellor. Evaluation of nominees will be made on demonstration of the following criteria for extraordinary service:

Nominations must include a completed nomination form and the following supporting materials:

Nomination forms may be completed by students, faculty, staff and administrators of Penn State Harrisburg. In order to be considered for the 2008 award, all nominations must be received by February 15, 2008. All supporting materials must be submitted by February 25, 2008.  Self-nominations will not be accepted. The awards cannot be initiated without a minimum number of two nominees for each award. An award cannot be presented to the same person within a 5-year period.

Award Presentation

The Staff Diversity Award and the Faculty Diversity Award will be presented at the Faculty and Staff Recognition Program on March 26, 2008.  The recipients will each receive a $500 check from the College Administration and an individual plaque.  The names of the winners will be inscribed on a large plaque located in the Olmsted Building.
