Penn State Harrisburg Summer 2009 Kids College Brochure
Penn State Harrisburg Baseball Academy is designed to help participants increase and enhance
fundamental skills. Participants will have the opportunity to improve in each phase of the
game through concentrated practice and game situations. Staff members will provide instruction,
direct support, and encouragement to help players develop their skills, abilities, and confidence.
Camp features include: low player-to-coach ratio, batting instructions, on field batting practice,
pitching instruction, defensive instruction, skills contests, team drills, games, and Penn State
Harrisburg Baseball Academy T-shirt. Participants will generally practice in their own age groups,
8-10 and 11-13, however the staff reserves the right to move a participant depending upon ability.
The Baseball Academy is under the direction of Penn State Harrisburg Head Baseball Coach Jim Tetkoskie,
whose extensive background includes experience as a coach at the American Legion, collegiate, and adult
levels. Instruction will also be provided by the Penn State Harrisburg Baseball coaching staff, as well

Penn State Harrisburg´s Boy´s Basketball Camp provides intense, intelligent
instruction designed to inspire participants to realize and achieve their "full"
potential! Your son will leave with an action plan to continue to improve his game. Camp
features include:
Camp Director, Coach Mike Gaffey, is the Head Men´s Basketball Coach at Penn State Harrisburg. Prior to coaching in college he served as the Head Boy´s Basketball Coach at Annville-Cleona High School, where his 2006-07 team went 19-6, posting the best record since 2000 and producing two 1000 point scorers in the same season for the first time in school history. That same season, Coach Gaffey was named Lancaster Lebanon League Section IV Coach of the Year. Previously, as the Junior Varsity Coach at Alvernia College, his JV team set a school record by scoring 60 points in one half. Prior to Annville-Cleona Gaffey served as Head Coach at Steel High, Palmyra, and Susquenita. His 1996 Palmyra team won the school´s and Lebanon County´s first Boy´s District Championship in 40 years! The Penn State Harrisburg Elite Soccer Camp aims to provide the most positive camp experience possible,
helping players find the balance between total enjoyment while learning at a high level. Under the
direction of Penn State Harrisburg head soccer coach Mark Brown, this camp will focus on technical
improvement through the strengthening of fundamental skills, with a special emphasis on understanding
the game within the framework of "the team". Activities will include warm-ups, individual
skill work, group work (theme of the day), small sided games (theme of the day), coaches´
demo/competitions, 3 vs. 3 round robin competitions, and full field sessions. For a

This camp is designed for the younger, less experienced player, ages 8-12, who wants to improve his or her game.
Basic fundamental and mechanical techniques will be taught, along with an introduction to the footwork and court
sense that the game demands. Players will be able to work on their skills through play-based drills and actual play.
The coaching staff will break the players into age and skill appropriate groups and reserves the right to change those

The Tennis Academy is designed for the older or higher level player, ages 13-18, who is looking to join the
high school tennis team and perhaps play in college. The focus will be on technical improvement, speed and
footwork training, shot selection, offense-defense, as well as strengthening basic tennis fundamentals. Players
will be broken into appropriate skill-based groups and encouraged to work hard on increasing their skill levels
during the week. Information on the expectations for high school and college play will be discussed, as well as
an overview of the college recruiting process and how the collegiate game differs from the high school experience.
