To establish a fair and equitable practice for compensating faculty who supervise approved internships during the summer session.
Capital College lacks a compensation schedule for faculty on a 36-week salary plan who take on the responsibilities for teaching/supervising internships during the summer session. This Guideline will establish a fair and equitable compensation schedule.
The following guidelines apply to faculty-supervised internships at Capital College
Faculty teaching/supervising undergraduate internships during the summer session [both sessions are considered as one summer session] will be compensated as follows: Number of credits up to six credits total per undergraduate internship times the dollar per credit hour at the summer session rate up to a maximum of 11% of the 36-week salary.
Example: Ten undergraduate students producing 36 credit hours in any combination of 1-6 credits times $109 per credit yields a salary of $3924. [The $109 figure is for illustration only.]
Faculty teaching/supervising graduate internships during the summer session [both sessions are considered as one summer session for compensation purposes] will be compensated as follows; Number of credits up to 6 credits per graduate internship times the dollar per credit hour summer session rate up to a maximum of 11% of the 36-week salary.
Example: Five graduate students producing 30 credits in any combination of 1-6 credits times $125 yields a salary of $3750. [The $125 figure is for illustration only.]
The School Director is authorized to limit the number of internships assigned to each faculty member so that the summer workload is distributed equitably.
Faculty will be reimbursed for reasonable expenses related to site visits at the standard rates and according to the applicable University policies. Site visits should be approved in advance by the School Director.
Accountability or Internship Performance Assessments
The faculty internship supervisor should file a report at the end of the internship period indicating that he/she fulfilled the requirements agreed upon at the time the internship was approved.
These reports will be used to compile internship performance indicators as required by the College's 2002-2005 Strategic Plan and for the annual academic unit outreach reports. Such reports should be consistent with any other accountability practices adopted by the various Schools as part of their plans for verifying the academic value of internship experiences.
