Academic Policies
10. Final Examination Policy
Purpose
To reinforce the University Faculty Senate Policy 44-20 on final
examinations.
Policy
The College's Guideline is the same as Senate Policy 44-20. All
faculty members are required to follow that policy as interpreted
locally by the Office of the Provost and Dean, the Senate, and the
School Directors.
- Faculty members must offer a full schedule of instruction,
e.g., fifteen weeks in a fifteen week semester.
- Faculty members are not allowed to schedule any final examinations
during the last week of classes.
- Faculty members who do not use final examinations to evaluate
student work may not require any alternatives, e.g., term papers,
final project reports, take-home examinations, or studio projects,
any earlier than the first day of the final examination period.
In other words, none of the material just mentioned or any other
alternative means of evaluating a student's performance may be
due on the last day of class.
- Any changes in the course requirements should be discussed
in advance with students and made only after achieving the unanimous
consent of the class. The requirements should be those stated
in the syllabus. All reasonable steps must be taken to resolve
any conflicts about course requirements before the semester ends.
- Please refer to the Policies and Rules or the
following web site if you have any additional questions about the College or
University policy.
