
Penn State Harrisburg’s second annual diversity lecture series begins its 2008-09 slate of events October 20 with a focus on music and drama from acclaimed actor, composer, and performer Grenoldo Frazier.
Hosted by the college’s Diversity and Educational Equity Committee (DEEC), the year-long public series is designed to support Penn State Harrisburg’s commitment to foster community dialog on issues while providing a forum for the exchange of diverse perspectives.
As a teenager in 1957, Minnijean Brown Trickey entered the Civil Rights Movement – and America’s consciousness – through the front doors of Central High School in Little Rock, Ark.
As a member of the Little Rock Nine, she took her place in what had previously been a whites-only school. Walking past armed guards and an angry mob, and in front of a worldwide television audience, Minnijean helped desegregate public schools – and change the course of education in America.
Be involved, land an internship early, take advantage of all the college’s resources, and be very careful of social networking.
These and other valuable, career-building pieces of advices were shared by a panel of alumni at the “Making the Most of Penn State Harrisburg” forum for current students recently.
