Rhoda Joseph named Technology Educator of the Year

Penn State Harrisburg School of Business Administration faculty member Rhoda Joseph has been honored as the Technology Educator of the Year by the Technology Council of Central Pennsylvania.

An assistant professor of information systems, Joseph was among those honored at the council’s 17th annual Awards Gala Friday, March 27. The other finalists for the award were: Bruce Schreiner, Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology; and Mary Bernstein, Camp Hill School District.

The council points out that in her classes, Joseph’s students obtain hands-on experience with a variety of software applications that they will be using or are currently exposed to in the real world. Course management tools, database applications, data warehousing modules, spreadsheets, message boards, and blogs are some of the diverse technology tools Joseph uses in her classroom.

She has developed courses in e-business, using the latest technology platforms such as ORACLE and web technologies. As part of Penn State Harrisburg’s outreach efforts, she has participated in several on-campus workshops with students from area high schools that are interested in careers in information technology. She has also presented some of these innovative practices and tools that she uses to the Information Sciences and Technology Advisory Board for the School of Business Administration.

Other award winners honored at the gala were: Outstanding Leadership in Technology — George White – CIO, Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General; Technology Provider of the Year – JPL; Best Application of Technology — Capital Blue Cross; Public Service Innovation — Security Cooperation Management Suite SCMS NAVSISA; Technology Product of the Year – Concurrent Technologies Corporation; Growth Company of the Year — QBC Diagnostics; Technology Company of the Year – Tyco Electronics.
