February 17, 2009

Penn State Harrisburg graduate Jeanne Campbell Suehr has earned honorable mention honors in the 2009 Carnegie Science Awards’ High School Educator Award, which recognizes innovation in inspiring students to understand, appreciate and apply science, and the extent that these innovations are disseminated.

Suehr earned a master’s degree in Teaching and Curriculum from the college in 2002.

As the recipient of one of five nationwide Westinghouse N-vision Grants, Suehr is leading numerous efforts to connect students to the real world of chemistry.  She is a high school chemistry teacher in the Yough School District.

The Carnegie Science Center established the Carnegie Science Awards program in 1997 to recognize and promote outstanding science and technology achievements in western Pennsylvania. Celebrating its 13th year, the Carnegie Science Awards have honored the accomplishments of more than 200 individuals and organizations that have improved lives through their commitment, courage and contributions.

“The Carnegie Science Awards program celebrates the champions of science and technology in our region,” said Ann Metzger, Acting Co-Director of Carnegie Science Center. “Our region is rich in science and technology resources, and this program shines the spotlight on the extraordinary researchers, entrepreneurs and educators working in these fields.” Suehr will be honored during a formal celebration at Carnegie Music Hall on May 8, 2009.
