Academic Skills Coach (Fall and Spring Semesters Only)

The Academic Skills Coach assists students in developing effective study habits, improving time management, and clarifying learning strategies. The coach will motivate you toward your scholastic goals by providing structure, support, and feedback. Examples of coaching sessions include time management, learning styles, the study cycle, note taking systems, textbook reading strategies, and test-taking strategies.

Schedule an appointment with Karen Miles using the Online Scheduler or call 948-6475. An appointment is required.

International/ESL Tutoring and English Conversation Practice (Conversation Table is available in the Fall and Spring Semesters Only.)

Our writing tutors have International and ESL expertise for both undergraduate and graduate students. Schedule an appointment with the writing tutors by using the Online Scheduler or contact Kathy at 948-6469 OR drop in to C-216 (semester start; moving to W-117) without an appointment, and a tutor will help you if one is available. An appointment is recommended, but not required.

For international students, or any student whose first language is not English, we offer informal, drop-in English Conversation Practice. Students can practice speaking and conversation skills in a comfortable setting with other international students and a Learning Center staff member with ESL expertise. Just drop in if you are interested in participating. Contact Kendra at kab39@psu.edu .

Math / Statistics Tutoring (Fall, Spring, and Summer Semesters)

Schedule an appointment using the Online Scheduler or call 948-6475 OR drop in without an appointment to C-212 (semester start; moving to W-102), and a tutor will help you if one is available. An appointment (individual or group) is recommended, but not required. Math tutors can help with math courses up to and including MATH 141 and STAT 200. Ask about other courses; frequently someone can tutor them. Scheduled tutoring is limited to two hours per week per course; additional time is available by dropping in. If you wish to inquire about scheduling a virtual appointment inquire at tutorrequest@psu.edu. This is a pilot program - you must have a microphone on the PC you intend to use.

Technology Tutoring (Fall and Spring Semesters Only)

For EXCEL, SPSS, etc. ask us to arrange a tutor. If we can find someone who is qualified and willing to work for the Learning Center, we will arrange a tutor! We are often able to find someone, but can't guarantee it. E-mail tutorrequest@psu.edu, drop in to C-216 (semester start; moving to W-117) to request a tutor or contact 948-6475. Tutoring is limited to two hours per week per course.

Handouts of some technology content are available in C-216 (semester start; moving to W-117) and in the ANGEL Learning Center Resources Group. (Look for Harrisburg Learning Center Resources on the ANGEL homepage. Log on, then do a group search.)

The Learning Center also has some text resources for technology applied to specific courses — e.g., EXCEL for finance, the TI-89, financial calculators, SPSS Introductions. Drop in to C-216 (semester start; moving to W-117).
