internship program

Graduate Internship Program Introduction

Internships are educational experiences that enhance a student's learning. The ability to experience "real world" situations in an appropriate organizational setting complements the classroom learning that students engage in.

Every student who does not have three years of relevant work experience is required to complete a 9-credit internship. The internship experience provides students with a dynamic, professional forum in which to apply the analytical and managerial knowledge they acquired in the MPA program. The internship is often instrumental in the development of students' master's papers. During the internship, students can develop a professional network important to their career.

Students who have sufficient experience when they apply for admission usually are granted a waiver upon admission. Students who gain experience, through working full-time while enrolled in the program can request a waiver by describing the details of their experience in a resume or a letter addressed to the Program Coordinator. A student requiring an internship must complete 18 hours of credit before he/she is eligible to do an internship.
