Jan L. Logemann
Ph.D. Candidate in Modern European History
"With my interests in twentieth-century European and American history, I find our graduate program an ideal place for pursuing research. I benefit from the input of very accessible faculty members who bring with them a wide range of expertise from different fields and encourage students to think in comparative, transnational and transcultural terms. I have made very good experiences as well with regard to getting help and support for presentations at conferences, grant-writing and other practical questions of professional development. Penn State's libraries with their excellent interlibrary loan system are well suited for dissertation research in modern history. What I enjoy most about our program, however, is the very collegial atmosphere among the graduate students. Even though we are a diverse group with regard to our research interests, we have a great deal of professional interaction (for example at the annual Graduate Student Conference) and a welcoming social environment that frequently extends beyond the confines of the seminar-room."
