University Ambulance Service wouldn't be what it is today without the dedication of our student volunteers! UAS is always looking for individuals committed to making a difference in their community. Penn State students who are certified EMTs interested in working at UAS should contact the Volunteer Supervisor or EMS Manager for more information after reading over the Volunteer Criteria listed below; to speed up the process, interested individuals are encouraged to read the online FAQ and fill out an application (see below.)

In addititon to Penn State Students, the University Ambulance Service is made up of an "event staff" who help to provide coverage at large events at the University, including football games. More information can be found below.

Student Volunteer Program

We accept new student volunteers on a semesterly basis. Applications are currently being accepted for the start of the Spring 2009 semester.

In order to be accepted into the volunteer program you must:

  • Be a Penn State student in good academic standing.
  • Be 18 years or older.
  • Possess a valid drivers/operators license.
  • Hold a current PA Department of Health EMT certification or higher without pending disciplinary or corrective action.
  • Successfully complete an AHA or equivalent CPR for the Health Care Provider course within the past year.

Additionally, those with no EMS experience may be trained and certified through the EMT Training Program (Kinesiology 403) here at Penn State; many class instructors and assistants work for UAS as well. For more information on Penn State EMS education, click here.

Event Staff

In addition to our regular crew of student EMTs, the University Ambulance Service hires a dedicated cohort of event staff, who provide patient care at a variety of events at Beaver Stadium, the Bryce Jordan Center, and other venues. These events include football games and other sporting events, concerts and other entertainment, and a variety of other public gatherings.

In order to be accepted as a member of event staff, you must:

  • Hold a current PA Department of Health EMT certification or higher without pending disciplinary or corrective action.
  • Successfully complete an AHA or equivalent CPR for the Health Care Provider course within the past year.
  • At least two years of experience in Emergency Medical Services.
