The Penn State Mars Society is committed to serve, inform, and educate the community through outreach. We specialize in educating the younger generation of students in the fields of science through hands-on activities. Our activities include a 4'x8' simulation Mars terrain, which is known as the "Mars Yard". Students are able to remotely control LEGO® Mindstorms™ rovers to complete tasks, while learning about space exploration and Mars. In addition, we showcase an astronaut glove simulation where students wear various sized gloves and are asked to complete a task, simulating the dexterity of a space suit glove. We also provide a hands-on gravity activity which demonstrates the difference in gravity on Earth, the Moon, and Mars. Our display also includes various posters related to Mars and space exploration in general.

In the past, our largest contribution has been through the annual Space Day at Penn State. We always set up an interactive display of our current projects at the Space Day Fair, and we also work with the national competition for elementary and junior high schools.

We hope to continue our dedication to the community through additional opportunities, and would be happy to give presentations or work on projects on any space topic. We encourage interested teachers to contact us.
