Welcome all to what I know will be a greatly productive and effective year as it already has been.
Already this summer, your CCSG Administration and Central Staff have been hard at work on your behalf. The greatest issue to which we have claimed victory on is the rate of tuition.
The CCSG Governmental Affairs Director and the Assistant Director DJ Ryan and Cerah Kolarcik respectfully worked tirelessly to mobilize the Penn State nation to act. Working with Alan Janesch, Director of the Penn State Grassroots Network, and Old Main officials, they were successful in stemming a large increase in tuition. Student leaders across the Commonwealth also convened in Harrisburg on July 10th alongside our state-related brethren, Temple, to rally and convince legislators of the importance of state-related institutions in gaining the stimulus dollars from the Federal Recovery and Reinvestment Act that Governor Rendell excluded us from. These relationships that we are building will lay the foundation for a positive impact on our tuition rates in the coming years.
Currently, we stand a few weeks out from the Leadership Conference. This conference is one of the most if not the most important conference for Penn State student leaders. There, we will build connections and set the goals necessary to what I know will be a great year of strong student advocacy, involvement, and service. Together, we can provide the best possible Penn State experience to all students across the Commonwealth.
I look forward to the coming year and the many accomplishments it may have.
