Jan 18th Meeting and News We also discussed the recent disaster in Haiti, and what we can do to help. Anyone interested in that should contact someone from the Penn State chapter of Project Haiti. Information on that was sent out over our mailing list, but if you are not a part of that, contact our Events officer, Kylee Digregorio. There will also be a spaghetti dinner to help raise money for Project Haiti on February 1st at St. Andrews Church (on the corner of Foster and Fraiser.) Our action for this week was a letter to thank Obama for giving Temporary Protected Status to Haitians in the US, and to ask him to rescind the policy of interdiction at sea. More information on this, and the action itself, can be found in the Actions section of this website. Finally, we are now starting tabling, which will be every Wednesday from 10-5 in the HUB. If you are interested, you can sign up at the Tabling section of this website every week, and feel free to stop by and help any time you are free during the day. posted by bsf5033 on Tue, 19 Jan 2010 17:43:17 EST Welcome back! First, we had a table at today's involvement fair - if you weren't there, you should have been. We have a lot of potential new members, but if you missed it you can get added to our mailing list by contacting our webmaster at bsf5033@psu.edu or through our contact form. Our first meeting is next Monday at 7pm on the Hub lawn, and will feature a more in-depth introduction to Amnesty for the new members. We've got several new ideas for events this semester, so come to the meetings and keep checking this site to find out about those. We're also always open to any suggestions you have, so feel free to contact us through Angel or this site's contact form with any questions, comments, or suggestions. posted by bsf5033 on Mon, 24 Aug 2009 21:53:08 EDT edited by bsf5033 on Mon, 24 Aug 2009 22:28:54 EDT Congrats posted by bsf5033 on Wed, 05 Aug 2009 13:46:15 EDT Semester Wrapup Since my last update we had a rather successful Jamnesty concert - managed to raise some money for the club, and despite our final band being a bit tardy, it went quite well. In addition to Jamnesty we had John Prendergast speak about conflict minerals in Congo, and how these minerals, used in our common high-tech devices, are fueling slave labor and war in Congo. For more information on this, see EnoughProject.org Finally, we've elected our new officers for next semester. While our graduating seniors will be missed greatly, I would like to congratulate our new officers of Arielle as Co-Coordinator, Steph as Events and PR, and Paul and Alexis as Recruitment and Retention officers. Returning officers include Anna and Tara as Co-Coordinators, Tara as Treasurer, Aaron as Secretary, and myself as Webmaster. We've already begun planning for next semester, so be ready for some great events when classes resume. posted by bsf5033 on Thu, 07 May 2009 17:14:04 EDT AGM and Updates In other news, I've been doing some more updates to the site. Most of it has been backend work (making things easier for the next webmaster, and myself,) but I also added the video for State of Georgia by State Radio, which was written about the Troy Davis case. I have also added links to Torturing Democracy, which I highly recommend if you have the time. And as always, let me know if I've broken anything during my site updates - It all worked fine in my testing, but something may have slipped by. posted by bsf5033 on Wed, 01 Apr 2009 19:27:16 EDT |
